Eugenics is when it’s enforced and there’s no choice. I think everyone should have the choice, but personally if I found out I was pregnant with a child that would suffer for months or years before dying I would rethink having that child. I think it’s cruel to have a child that suffers, but unfortunately we have to be careful because this idea can be twisted by bad people.

The folks on that X app said that I support a eugenics for saying two people with the sickle cell trait shouldn’t have kids. MIND YOU I have a cousin who DIED AT 11 from sickle cell.

i would never condone forced sterilization for obvious reasons but i do think people who knowingly & willingly pass down debilitating health issues and mental illnesses to their children deserve to be shamed for it just as much if not more than people who have children despite not being able to afford food or rent

Pregnant person here, in New York you can get a genetic test while pregnant and they even suggest you do it, I did it because if my child had something that would literally make them suffer as soon as they’re born I’d feel horrible

I agree! I’m a carrier for a terminal disease. Thankfully we had my husband tested and he doesn’t have it so at most our kids will also be carriers, but we agreed years ago that I’d terminate a pregnancy with the disease if that were to happen. I’m not birthing a baby for them to only know pain and suffering. That’s wild! Why so I can call myself a mom? That’s selfish. Making a person suffer for your personal gain is WEIRD!!

ethically it's wrong to tell someone they cannot have a child regardless of the reason. morally, it's wrong for 99% of people to have a child because forcing a child into existence shouldn't be done simply because you feel like it.

I'm a person with severe heart problems and I could pass it down to my children, even if it's a 5% chance, it's not a chance I'm willing to take. I don't understand why anyone would do that to a child.

All I got is adhd & depression and I still wouldn’t wanna pass that to a kid. 😭 And then theirs might be more severe than mine & I know I wouldn’t be able to handle it. I know my limits

I have autism, I would never want to pass this down to a child. Not because being autism is inherently horrible but living in a world the refuses to accommodate for it and traumatizes autistic people daily? im not subjecting a child to that. I also can barely care for myself properly and fall behind on basic care tasks. add a child into it? id die.

I became disabled at 26, id never want to pass this to my children even if they get 26 normal years like i did. 26 years is not enough life lived and you lose everything once you become disabled ESPECIALLY here in America.
