I do agree with this, especially when I look at some bills and think damn I could buy a car for how much this person paid for a system… at the same time technicians need to be more valuable to the company. I know a bunch of technicians who are only there for what they were sent for, not looking to diagnose problems or ask the homeowner about comfort and airflow and what else they could need in their house… the more you learn, the more you understand the system, the more you diagnose and investigate and are curious, the more valuable you become to that company and they will pay you more. And I’m not talking about selling an air scrubber to an 80-year-old lady, I’m talking about asking questions like are there certain rooms in your house that are always hot always cold… questions like this lead to happier customers, prevent callbacks, and ultimately save the company money and make the company more money

Why would you even work for a company. There is so much work out there. When I started out I took on any type of jobs and over the years as I got more customers I started to focus on larger refrigeration units and RTU. Even if you work 2 days a week in the beginning you will make more money than working for a company.

5 years in the Hvac trade, got my contractor's license and before that was an industrial technician making 125k a year. So there is plenty of money to be made just you have to keep advancing and get more certificates as well
