I love on the east coast of Canada. back in 2020, about 6 weeks before they locked everything down, we had a massive generational storm we all call/ed Snowmageddon. it feels weird to hear it on another storm 😂 stay safe!

PS: Focus on keeping one small room warm, preferably the one with the least amount of outdoor walls or windows. Hanging blankets over windows can help insulate from the cold. Oh, and you lose a ton of heat through your feet and head! Layer up on socks and wear a Toboggan!!

Note on hot water, if you have a thermos or two, shortly before the storm is close to you: boil your kettle & fill the thermos’ so you start out with hot water already. Been a life saver when it’s -30c or below & power cuts. That hot tea/drinks helps to get you moving. Stay safe.

Inside of a tent is 5°-10° warmer. Erect a tent in the middle of a room, away from windows and doors, and sleep in there. It’ll trap body heat.

I recommend you try using glow sticks ( a pack of bracelets works well) make a path around your home with glow sticks to get to the bathroom etc theyer really great and I don’t know why more people don’t use em like my girls and I do. They feel fun for the kiddos and no worries for mom

from an Eastern Canadian who's used to ice storms. pull the grill near the backdoor to cook, if possible. if you can get a radio/flashlight combo with a handcrank, do it. They're great for this sort of situation.

Fill gallon ziplock bags with water and lay flat around your frozen foods. Blocks of ice help you avoid losing the contents of your freezer, if the power goes out. Also doubles as extra drinking water, if you run out.
