@ajsaxsma: Plot twists work when patterns do the heavy lifting. This video breaks down how effective twists come from repetition, setup, and reader assumptions rather than hidden secrets or clever reveals. Writing craft for fiction writers focused on storytelling, narrative structure, and plot design. #plottwists #writingtips #writingcraft #writingadvice #writertok
the reason soylent green is so iconic is because they were putting down the bricks the whole movie. you were ultimately the one piecing it together, and whatever theories you had were all thrown away when Thorn started to follow where the bodies were being taken to. I remember seeing the conveyer belts and having my “aha” moment, gasping in horror so I wouldn’t feel so sick to my stomach. I was basically in shock until the end of the movie lol

THANK YOU. The reason why so many films of series don’t work is because they are based on hidden info. It’s such a lame technique.

I'm leaving subtle hints that have a simple explanation that can be easily overlooked but once the plot twist hits, those subtle hints make sense in a whole new light

Unreliable narrators + hidden info = lousy plot twists.

knives out was actually an obvious plot twist for me but the plot kept making me change my mind on what really happened, so somehow even when i knew what happened i was still surprised

Mine was, my character died in his original world. Then he wakes inside the body of an alternate version of him in an alternate universe. He basically took over the identity of this alt ver of him. His og mom sleeps early during the night. But in this alternate world, sometimes he would get texts from this alt mom during late at night, asking about his wellbeing. If he check the history of text, this pattern started a month ago (hint). Would give hints or mini scenes of this. Mom will downplay insomnia, or too much caffeine. Mom would start going into "church" often which he finds odd but thinks maybe its just alternate world difference. Plot twist: Alt mom was having nightmare about her son dying. She knows that this person before her is not her original son. Month before, she got a dream her son would die. She not wrong though, he did die.

I read The Diabolic trilogy (super underrated) a few years ago and whenever someone mentions a good plot twist that trilogy just comes into my head bc the plot twists were written so well

I just read metal slinger the other day and the plot twist in that one felt like the most random thing ever. There was nothing pointing to it throughout the book and to top it off 40% of the book (especially her inner monologue) didn’t make sense anymore afterwards. Literally just felt like a random decision when the book was already finished to create a “gotscha” moment 😅😂
