it’s completely reasonable for him to be upset that she couldn’t go to the funeral. HOWEVER, getting this upset about it and tearing her apart and saying you hate her is not okay. giving up seven years of school is not an easy thing to do

I hate that op and her bf were put in this situation and that she couldn’t be at the funeral but it’s unfair to get mad at her when she tried to get the extension and was told no by her professor or to ask her to sacrifice seven years of education and the degree that came with it.

I recently lost my grandmother and my now ex gf didn't come to the funeral. I completely understand where he is coming from. You don't realize how much you need people by your side. However, unlike my horrible ex, OP had a valid reason not to attend and has put in the effort to try and fix the relationship. I feel bad for both here

As a man, I would totally understand the position she was in and her decision. It’s not like she didn’t go because she didn’t want to, that was a major point that dictates her future. I would like my SO to be there but that situation was totally reasonable why she wasnt there.

Idc anyone who thinks op is the bad guy needs to look within. She tried to be there for him putting her own education at risk and he allowed his grief to turn into anger and destroyed their relationship you can’t come back from that. She was with him through every step except the funeral for her education and he disrespected her for it even though she still called him to stay connected. At some point you’re not going to keep tolerating these things.

People miss funeral of their OWN family all the time. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. People get injured, sick, aren’t financially well enough (If it’s far away or HAVE to work), or have things going on that would be life-changing to skip. Sometimes funerals are too hard to go to, too. That doesn’t mean they cared about the person any less.
