@ultimateivyleagueguide: A lot of students think their application problem is that they’re “not impressive enough.” Usually, the real issue is that their application doesn’t explain where they’re headed. They have strong grades and activities, but when everything is put together, there isn’t a clear through-line. That through-line is what I mean by a narrative. The Narrative Method makes sure your application shows consistent direction over time. Here’s how I break it down with students: 1️⃣ First, you define direction. This is a value-based theme that defines who you are, what you’re interested in, and where you’re headed. 2️⃣ Second, build your Master Plan Design your classes, activities, and summers so they point toward the same future instead of looking random. 3️⃣ Third, commit to Daily Action Take small, consistent actions that build real evidence over time. 4️⃣ Fourth, translate your impact. Turn that evidence into essays and recommendations that reinforce one application theme. If you’re doing a lot but still feel unsure how colleges are interpreting your application, it usually means your narrative isn’t fully formed yet. I’m Elise, and I’ve helped hundreds of students build clear, intentional narratives that actually translate in admissions.
