If you struggle to squat deep, the limitation is often not the hip. It is the ankle. For the knee to travel forwards in a squat, the ankle needs sufficient dorsiflexion. When that movement is restricted, the body has to compensate. The hips shift backwards, the centre of mass moves away from the base of support, and maintaining balance becomes increasingly difficult.
