THIS is why historians should be part of senior policy decisions. IMO, part of the panic in this crumbling world order is that no one seems to know what the new world order is. If feels like we’re sliding into a void with nothing to replace it

I've BEEN saying this, the root of it all is car culture. You're never forced to participate in being a member of the public.

Pandemics are “always” shifts. I was so concerned about this years ago.

The "old world" always dies. Everything, everyone, dies. The only constant is change, and that's very difficult to accept for many.

We let the most anti-social people form the structures of our world. We have unempathetic business leaders dictating terms. This must all stop.

It’s not just that old modes of interaction are ‘dying’ — capitalism structurally alienates us from real connection. Marx said under capitalism we’re cut off from what we build, how we spend our time, and each other.

I told my mom it was the fall and reckoning of Whiteness, she sat silently as I explained for the first time in my thirty years, so I know that must be a big part of it too.

Kind of odd to say this because I have been to business school and I work in corporate finance, but you are outlining exactly what Karl Marx predicted in Das Kapital

People aren’t frustrated by new modes of living. They’re frustrated because the new “nobility” is doing their best to return us to the feudal system.

Redondo Beach :
Capitalism lies at the roots of our social alienation. Every tool and technology that could be positive for us is weaponized purely for profit at our expense. The highways get wider as we spend more time in our cars. Contradictions heighten at rates I’ve never seen, how can this not result in change? We’ll see how well the few that own *everything* keep the lid on it.
