OMG YES!! The first thing I thought was when in doubt, go for purple, it really is the best. I also just noticed Army Painter bottles have a nice warmth indicator on them, which I’m gonna point out to friends who ask me about it, cus I get how warm and tones can be confusing at first. Love this!

noob question: do you use primer of those colours or do you apply black/grey/white primer and then basecoat with the warm or cool underpaint?

This is the first common sense color wheel explanation with concrete examples that I’ve stumbled across…you’re out here doing the mini-painting gods work ❤️

That was probably the shortest and best explanation for the color wheel I've heard!

I just started painting some Nurgle fly riders and based them magenta. I’m still working on them but that shade of magenta has done a TON of heavy lifting on making easy shadows on the models.

Ahh this makes so much sense now - I was wandering why I keep seeing people under painting their orks with purple, but now I get it!

Does the underpainting work like a base coat on the entire area, or just like an upside down highlight on select parts of the models?? I tried doing the latter but I think the effect is a bit too subtle. Any advice?? I tried using a muted cool plum violet. Ignore the wayyyyyyyyy overboard OSL 😭

This is so fascinating. I want to try under painting with my new airbrush. I just need to find a model to try it on. I’ve never done light like this. But I’m so keen to try

You have made me want to try underpainting, but I had one question. With split underpaint, the pestigor for example, you mix the gray of the with both undertones for each side. Do you do this for all colors, like the brown or gray for the weapons or leather? Or just the skin?

So for my Blood Angels I went with a magenta? then blended the red over it. should I have gone with blue instead for the "shaded" areas?
