@thehotmesshomestead: Let's do some winter vortex farm chores! I'm running on fumes after my husband being gone this week and the stress of trying to get everything ready for the weekend where he's going to work while I'm at home taking care of kids and animals with probably no power and water. My prayers are going out to everybody who is going to be affected by the storm! Y'all remember to stay safe. ##Homestead##Homesteading##FarmLife##FarmAnimals
You can use the feed bags as tarp alternatives a lot of people use them on walls for inside coop insalation

be careful with tarps on top of run... im in the Midwest and we had a run collapse a few years ago from the weight of the ice and snow. be prepared to go out and clean it off if necessary

I would use caution with putting the tarps over the runs so the weight doesn't crush the panels. 3 inches of ice is a lot of weight for that wire to hold.

I don't want to assume anything, I'm asking this as a Mainer- do you have experience with chickens in this kind of weather? do you want any feedback?

Fill up the bathtubs, the sinks, bowls, pitchers, 5 gallon buckets: everything you can. To water the animals, to flush toilets, etc.

Well done for getting it all done 😁 and ‘don’t choke your chicken’ had me a little stunned of processing “did I hear her right?” 😂😂😂

Do you prefer straw or shavings for insulation for the coops? My husband grabbed straw for our turkey and chicken coops but I was second guessing that lol

Yes, we’ve been using feed bags, random trash bags, tarps. Anything around that we have that we can zip tie staple until we can be better prepared
