I'm currently waiting for a consultation with gastro. I've got loads of GI symptoms for years, and I was tested 8 years ago as my dad was diagnosed as I was having symptoms, then tested again a year ago when I ended up getting diagnosed with HSD. both coeliac tests were negative. turns out I've been IGA deficient for EIGHT YEARS and it was filed wrong 😭, they now think it's either coeliac or possibly very early/mild Crohns, but leaning more towards coeliac

I don’t understand, to begin with isn’t it just a blood test? My 10yo has been having stomach issues for about a year and the GP sent her straight for a blood test to test for celiac. Am I mistaken that they’ve tested her or are drs refusing to do a simple blood test on people?

I was told by so many GIs that I had IBS and to eat more fiber. I would eat so much fiber and spend most of my day in the bathroom and the. I would undo my pants at work and hide my bloated belly under my desk. I guess because I was overweight, they never considered celiac disease.🫠

My husband and I had issues throughout our life and had issues gaining and keeping weight. I had anemia and multiple bowel issues but doctor's never took me seriously and claimed I was a closet anorexic and had it marked in my chart without my knowledge. My husband was diagnosed with IBS and severe heart burn. We were officially and correctly diagnosed when our daughter was diagnosed at the age of 2 because our pediatrician took our concerns seriously. Getting ourselves diagnosed was still an uphill battle because no one wanted to take us seriously when we demanded to be blood tested. If our daughter hadn't been diagnosed first and we didn't have the backup that celiac was genetic I truly believe we wouldn't have been able to get those tests done. Doctors really pushed against us especially because we were getting tested in our late 20s. they just didn't believe we would undiagnosed for so long. I truly hold a lot of anger towards the doctors we ran into, the ones we fought against, the ones that didn't believe us when we said something was wrong. I also hold a deep gratitude towards my daughters pediatrician for deciding to look deeper.
fight for yourself, you know your body and no one else is going to fight for you.

I had low iron, calcium and vitamin d for a long time but I still had to argue with GPs for years before they’d do a broad blood test to find out why. I didn’t have any classic signs of CD but I knew something wasn’t right and I was at work but managed to get a tel appt with a locum and I unleashed, I told him I felt like I was going to 💀 at work, this isn’t right and no one cares, he eventually gave in and a few weeks later.. coeliac disease!

I passed out at one job, spent a week in hospital thinking it was relating to my pre-existings and then the follow up with the ‘GP’ few weeks (bless her I think she was covering) she said ‘oh you’ve got coeliac don’t you?’… the only thing I could say was ‘DO I?! What’s that?’ you tell someone they have a disease and things spiral there for a mo. Then those blasted nutritionist meetings, trying to push Coeliac UK subscription on me and the same conversation every time. I’ll never forget when she had a trainee with her and the trainee said to help my levels I should have MALT drinks… I CACKLED

Yeah I had all them symptoms. I was told over and over it was depression and ibs. It was only for a fortune teller that told me to get tested for celiac. Imagine 😭 didn't know anything about it. Had the camera and also had stomach, pancreas and bowel infections. I felt like death. 12 years later I'm good. Just fatigue all the time but I'll take that any day
