I was lucky to be invited to go with my friend. His family met us at the airport with food in hand and lots of hugs and smiles. It was such a wonderfully warm and happy experience. 🥰

I will miss this when the new airport opens. It’s jarring the first time to experience such chaos but it’s also like such a good introduction to Saigon and Vietnam in general. Busy, chaotic and yet still there’s warmth, love, and care.

It is Until you have to go back without your mom.. the one who made sure I fell in love with my maternal roots.. went back for her 1st death anniversary.. realizing she’s not waiting on the other side or is on the phone with her grand daughter making sure I got there ok. Instead it’s your neice’s family .. it’s the first time being able to grieve with my older brothers and family…

In my parents' home country in Trinidad, the old airport had a "waving gallery" on the second floor, overlooking the tarmac. I remember those days when the whole family would be at the airport for you. When the government built the newer airport, a "waving gallery" was no longer considered because passengers would be using the jetways to board, instead of walking across the tarmac.
