anthropologist here. there's no such thing as species. there's not distinct and clean lines between most closely related species. we're all earthlings. that's all we can say. and even that's not certain universally, btw.

"fish" is just a classification for aquatic animals with gills, to be honest. its a wastebasket term. like we all agree on what a fish is, loosely, but like. some fish are more closely related to humans than they are the fish in the same body of water they live in.

Taxonomically, there's no such thing as trees. as in while we have groupings of certain organisms such as canines, or families like onions, dozens of families of plants have independently come up with "tall central columns"+"diverging limbs and leaves" as a solution .

my favorite is when field scientists fudge their reports to sound more scientific when something unexpected happened. There was a post about frog researchers doing this. They had a long-winded explanation on how their key specimen removed itself from their observations, but in reality it was dark and they dropped the frog, and couldn't find it
