anytime an archaeologist suggests that an item might have had religious or ceremonial use, it's literally just another way to say "we don't actually know" lol

I always wonder how they figured out to make these. Like no one woke up and went "I'm making it using this and this"

Pretty fragile overall. I’m gonna say either scaling fish, gutting fish or cleaning the inside of hides before drying

So I know the flakes are supposed to be one of, if not, the sharpest things in the world, but all these tools I see people make with obsidian look so dull?

I think it was used as a boomerang. I will not give any evidence with my thoughts.

also arguing here that utility and ceremony are not necessarily separate and that's a western concept anyway

I suspect it was probably for gutting game, be that on land or from the sea.

I’ve been scrolling for a while and I always see videos like these. But i always had one question in my mind. In these videos, we see you chip away and break obsidian to get it to be the right shape like spear heads and arrow tips. My question is, if obsidian is that easy to break, won’t they be like a one use type of weapon. Idk I’ve always thought that if you were to fight someone with an obsidian spear, it all just explode on impact. I don’t mean to sound ignorant or uneducated btw😅. I love watching these vids and this is a hobby I’d love to get into!
