GET A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR! yes, even candles can cause it. the gas sinks so keep the detector on the ground.

My full kettle on the stove takes 10 min (medium heat so the handle doesn’t melt) so those candles did well

If you’re worried you’re going to lose power put a clear plastic cup full of water in the freezer now. Once it’s frozen put a coin on top and leave it in the freezer. If you lose power once it comes back on leave it for a few hours then check the cup and see where the coin is. This will tell you if and how much the stuff in your freezer defrosted and if it’s ok to eat (can give you an indication on your fridge also). This tip is good if you go on holidays also as it will tell you if you lost power while you were away

just make sure the terra-cotta is legit terracotta if you do this! home depot often just sells terracotta coated concrete pots and they don’t heat the same way/may crack

If you lose power, turn off water access to your house and drain the water lines. It’ll help prevent pipes from possibly bursting inside.

If you loose power boil water, fill water bottles with the hot water and put them in your bed under blankets to stay warm. Also turn the water main off and open faucets everywhere to drain all the water. Don’t forget to flip the breaker off the water heater so it doesn’t break when power comes back on.
