It’s -41 in my area (not uncommon to hit -40+ in the winter) and have never once heard of exploding trees.

I googles exploding trees and found some videos. It’s really more of a crack than explosion that happens when the sap and moisture inside the tree freezes causing the crack. Trees with smooth bark are more susceptible to this phenomenon.

Here in Michigan, yes it’s normal to lose a few trees in the forest. It’s cold and they crack. Not explode. -31
