There’s a trend going around where Americans are shocked by how we wash our dishes in the UK. 🍽️ 🧼 Many British people don’t rinse their dishes after washing them in hot, soapy water but thats not how we all do it. Here’s how I do mine. Just to note, in the UK we call dish soap ‘washing up liquid’, and a lot of Americans are surprised that we have a bowl in the sink, often not knowing what it’s for. I will explain! I fill the bowl with hot, soapy water. In the UK, we usually only have one sink, not double sinks, so a bowl is really handy. It protects delicate dishes and glasses from the hard surface of the sink, whether it’s ceramic, stainless steel, or composite like mine. The bowl is also great because it can be lifted out to make room for bigger items like baking trays or pots and pans. It also saves water! Here’s my process: I start by washing glasses first, rinsing them under the hot tap as I go. Then, I wash the cutlery, rinsing again, followed by plates, cups, and mugs. All food is pre-scraped into the food waste bin first. If needed, I’ll change the water before moving on to pots and pans, using a scouring pad or brush for tougher jobs. I play a bit of ‘dish Jenga’ by stacking everything up on the draining board. Often in the UK, washing up is done by two people—one washes while the other dries with a tea towel, which makes the process faster and keeps the kitchen tidier. Finally, you can either leave the dishes to air dry or put them away later (or even in the morning if you’re washing up at night). The downside of leaving them to air dry is that the kitchen can still look a bit messy, so I sometimes just dry everything with a clean tea towel and put it all away. How do you do yours? ##ukcomedy##washingdishes##washingup##dishsoap##washdishes##CleanTok##cleaningtiktok##clean##cleanwithme##mumsoftiktok##MomsofTikTok##howido
