Extreme dryness, salt flats, high-altitude lagoons, geysers, and some of the clearest skies on the planet — this is a place where landscapes change completely from one day to the next💔 HOW TO GET & HOW LONG TO STAY Fly into Aeropuerto de Calama (CJC) and continue ~1.5 hours to San Pedro de Atacama, which works best as a base. You can pre-book an airport transfer or rent a car if you want more flexibility. ⏳ How much time to plan: 5 full days to explore the main Atacama highlights. Add 3–4 days if you want to extend the trip to the Bolivian salt flats WHAT TO VISIT Many locations can be reached by car, but this usually means advance planning and booking park access ahead of time. Tours are another solid option — many are half-day, which makes it easy to combine two experiences in one day and still have time to enjoy San Pedro in between. We didn’t drive and explored Atacama through tours after comparing different options — a choice I’d happily repeat.
