If you don’t want your toddler to think they can get things by throwing a tantrum and you hold a firm no because you want them to learn to tolerate objections, you're missing one important thing. The problem is you think the crying, the standoff and sitting through it is the lesson that teaches them to accept a limit. A limit only lands when two things are working. Inhibitory control, the brake that stops him reaching for what he wants. And emotion regulation, the calm that lets him hear why he can't have it. Leaving them in it doesn't teach them to handle it. They just burn out. Distracting and bribing them doesn't teach them to face it . They just skip it. Guiding them helps them practise it, and in time, it becomes theirs. I’m no magician and this is no magic, to get cooperation with your toddler without yelling or giving in you need to learn what to say and do and practice it. That’s what I do with other parents inside my private community. It's simple, if you need help with these situations go to my link in bio to join the community.
