Many gay men struggle with loneliness and dissatisfaction because far too much emphasis is placed on vanity, youth, and physical appearance. In a community where looks and age are often prioritised above character, values, integrity, and emotional depth, genuine connection becomes rare. Yet appearance is fleeting! It inevitably changes with time while principles, morals, and kindness endure. The level of internalised judgment and discrimination within the community is deeply troubling. Until there is a collective shift away from superficial standards and toward substance, authenticity, and self-acceptance, the same patterns of unhappiness will continue to repeat themselves.

My suggestion for gay men is to try to find a good support team , either family or friends. I’m 59 and don’t really focus on how wants me or doesn’t. Either way I’m going to be happy

If you develop other aspects of your identity while you’re young besides looks (sense of humor, interests, curiosity etc), aging won’t quite come as such a shock.

It’s not so much a fear of aging as it is a fixation on youth and youthful beauty. In heterosexual dynamics, men are often considered attractive well into older age, and women are socially conditioned to prefer older men. In contrast, gay male culture tends to place higher premium on youth, with younger men more consistently idealized.

The issue is that the community places value on physical appearance over emotional growth and substance. If you put in the effort to focus on yourself, it doesnt matter and the right person will stay with you and find you beautiful over the years 🥰 into an almost 9 year relationship and what has helped us over the years is loving ourselves and each other 🤷🏻♂️
