@madscientistofmuscle: In-Line Split Squats... this is a variation of the single dumbbell split squat. This one is done with your feet set directly in line with each other. Normally when you do split squats, you want to set your feet with a bit of horizontal separation so that they're NOT directly in line with each other. This is for balance and stability by increasing your base of support. This setup decreases your FEET base of support but requires holding on for balance. I find this setup increases the tension on the glutes by removing some of the help you would normally get from the adductors when your feet are separated. To me, I felt enough of a difference with this foot alignment to feel that it was worth doing. Because balance will then become a bigger issue, the key then is to hold onto something solid to keep yourself balanced as you're doing the exercise (my rack did wobble a bit because it's not bolted down). You can see based where my feet are on the rug that my feet are set directly in line with each other. I'm using a 135 lb dumbbell for this one. You can use a lighter weight and go for more reps or stick with heavier loading like this (you may want to use grip assistance, if you find grip is your weak link here). You can your reps on one leg then immediately switch to the other or, if you want to maximize strength, take a rest in between legs. You could also potentially set your front foot on a Step to elevate it and get even more of a stretch (I don't have that option in my garage here). #madscientistofmuscle #splitsquats #dumbbellsplitsquat #dumbbellsplitsquats #glutes #gluteexercise #glutetraining #gluteworkout #buttexercise #legday #legtraining
