Each MRE come with enough calories for a full day. But, they can bind you up pretty good. They do that on purpose. If you're doing work down range, you didn't want to have to drop trou in the middle of your mission. The gum, contains the required laxative to work it out once you get back to base. Do with this information what you will.

Be careful. Each one contains enough calories to get through a whole day. Also, if this is your only food source for more than 2 days, you need to pad your toilet bowl to protect it from cracking when it gets hit by a cinder block.
