I managed a hardware store for awhile so here’s a tip - buy frog tape and take it off immediately after you paint. It has a hardener on the edges that gives it a crisp line but has to be removed quickly

1. frog tape not painters tape. 2. after putting the tape on, paint the base color again. 3. after the other color is painted on, remove frog tape while paint is still tacky, not dry. 🥰

If you’re doing lines like this you can’t get the cheap tape. You gotta get Frogtape — the green is regular, the grey or orange are high adhesion & remove when still wet.

i think when you tape it you’re supposed to paint the base layer over the tape again and then paint the other colour if that makes sense

Tape. Then paint over the tape with the wall colour so if any bleeds it won’t be seen. Then on top of that add the stripe colour

Painting the base colour over the tape and then the stripe colour over will mean that any paint that bleed beneath the tape will be the same colour as the wall so you wouldn’t be able to tell

I’ve seen it work if you do a first coat the same color as the walls cause that color bleeds then you add the actual color and it works

you always paint a layer of the original color first. that way, its that color that leaks under the paint. then when thats dry, paint your stripe color over top of it. the first layer will seal off the tape, so the stripe color cannot leak under the tape. leaving you with clean lines.
