@aveovershares: The builders of this 13th-c. fortress seemed to know something we don’t… any theories as to what’s going on with this creepy cool castle deep in the Bohemian woods? #darkplace #darkhistory #haunted #medieval #horror
Could it possibly have housed a princess who transformed into an ogre at night?

I am Czech and I am begging you to not spread misinformation. Houska was originally built as a defensive fortress for the surrounding area management, yes. But it was later transformed into a recreational center to stay at while the nobility hunted in the surrounding area, and all the fortifications were torn down. That's all that is to the "mystery".

Its not gothic, the architecture is romanesque. Gothic architecture was made with the purpose of illuminating the interior space, a style inspired by the writings of Psuedo-Dionysus the Areopagite and realized by Abbot Suger at St Denis in France, which is seen as the birthplace of the gothic architectural style.

As a introvert, I get why someone would build it there.

I know nothing about this place but from the way you describe the terrain, this was a place to fall back to. its unusual location, isolation, and the harsh terrain surrounding it was its defense. more the likely few knew the safest way to navigate to it. from the video you showed, at least 3 sides of this castle could be defended from a fair distance using the openings in the roof. not to mention that do to the mountains behind and adjacent to the cliff make a natural bottle neck. this would make overwhelming force by numbers alone and flanking difficult.

I've always been fascinated with Housksa Castle. BTW, anyone ever read F. Paul Wilson's The Keep? or seen the Michael Mann adaptation?

I don’t know, ma’am… I have been taking care of the cleaning in Houska for the last 374 years and I have never seen anything strange. And I am the youngest of the cleaning crew and they haven’t noticed anything strange either.
