@alaysia.ortega: Afro-Latino culture is part of Latino culture — but it’s also distinct. Different history. Different relationship to racism. Different erasure. Media whitewashing is why people think Afro-Latino culture is ‘just Latino culture.’ Naming Black roots isn’t divisive — it’s honest #AfroLatino #BlackDiaspora #LatinoHistory #CulturalErasure #MediaRepresentation
As a Puerto Rican, we have Taíno culture. Please don't erase other cultures. Yes, Afro was there, but so was indigenous, and most Latinos have more indigenous and Spanish heritage. We are a mixture, whether the skin color changes or not.

The original culture consists of the Native Indigenous populations. Then the European and African influences. Yes, Afro-Latinos are a part of it… but they aren’t the entire culture.

If we’re being honest besides the Spanish language itself the majority of the most globally recognized and influential aspects of Latino culture was created by Afro Latinos. A lot of the Afro Latino creations and cultures are often just credited to the Latin American country in general or Latino culture as a whole. The great Carlos Santana said it best, all of the music that people call Latin or Spanish, it’s really black and African so black people need to get credit for that.
