@joshcmatt: Most people pay their credit cards the wrong way. There are two dates you need to know. The due date is when you must pay to avoid late fees. The statement closing date is when your balance gets reported. Your score uses the balance shown on the statement. Pay the card down before the statement closes. Using the card before it closes can raise your balance. To find your statement closing date check your last statement. You can also look in your card app or call the card company. Pay on time to protect your payment history. Pay early to keep your balance low. This is how you control how your card affects your credit score. #creditcards
800+ credit score here. I pay the full statement balance 5 days before the due date. I let 1 card report 1-9% utilization (highest limit card) then pay it back down to 0 after the statement closing date. All other cards report 0.

I pay mine off in full as soon as I charge something on them. They get mad because they can't make any interest off of me, so they raise my credit limits in hopes that I will make a charge that I can't pay off in full. 816 credit score.

So, if my due date payment is on the 10th and my closing date is on the 14th, I should not use it on the 11th-13th? It’s just a random example of dates.

You can still use it after the due date, just got to make sure you pay in full before the statement closing date window what ever time it is in that date

People are over thinking it, and putting too much emphasis on the credit score when it isn’t necessary. Use your credit card, let it report, pay it off in full. That’s it. If you have 50% utilization will affect your credit score, but it doesn’t matter. Only time your credit score matters, is when you get a new credit card, or a loan. If you’re planning on getting one of those. Then about a month or two ahead of time, pay down those credit card to under 10% before the statement close date. Credit score fluctuates month to month.

Thank you so much for making this video and giving the correct information of how to use your credit card. I have seen so many videos where they give this information absolutely backwards.

I do this exact thing. Most of my credit cards are reported $0 even though I use regularly.

Some of my utilities will not accept CC. They only take check and debit. I’m forced to pay some of my bills that way😩
