Waiting for more entry roles to pop up… I applied for a role last year and was stoked to get an interview after I saw there was over 200 applicants at the time I submitted mine. It came down to myself and one other person, which felt so brutal to miss out on the role however I given some really wonderful feedback and tips alongside encouragement to keep applying. Such a competitive industry, eh! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Do I have a job? Yes. Am I looking to switch careers even remotely related to a librarian? No. Did I watch the whole thing? Yes 🙌

This is EXCELLENT advice. And also have explicit examples of your skills in practice! I’ve done a bunch of hiring in libraries and one thing we always mark people on “is can they demonstrate the skill they say they have”. Like if you say you’re good at teamwork tell us about a time you worked as a team and how that made the situation better. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) in your answers and you’ll be marked super high. So I always have examples for common skills I’ll be asked about (communication, customer service, empathy, teamwork, initiative etc) prepared ahead of time so I don’t go blank in the interview. And always remember they’re not trying to trick you!! The panel wants you to succeed - you’re amongst friends!
