Man in a Chair :
As a kid growing up in England, this was mandatory reading at school. I would also recommend Jules Verne novels.

I hate "human have it too easy, only suffering brings growth" take. It pretends suffering is some moral requirement for growth, when most real improvement happens once people are not busy just to survive and actually have room to think, experiment, and get better at things. also you said the book have a socialist take, i used to live in a socialist country who would cut off medical financial support to ppl even tho they are entirely ruch enough to cover for all citizen, just because "citizen needs to learn not to just take handouts", people die from that one sentence. poverty is still very much in this country. it is not some magical and more perfect humane system.

I absolutely loved this book. The Time Machine was my favorite, but War of the Worlds, and The Invisible Man were also amazing. The Island of Dr. Moreau was kind of Well's "Frankenstein".

Love this book so much! Read The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells next. It’s similarly tense, philosophical, and great science fiction
