What sources or direct experiences inform your assessment of 90-95% of Black churches? Scripture teaches us that we recognize authentic faith by its fruit (Matthew 7:16-20). When evaluating any church's faithfulness to biblical teaching, we must examine whether it produces the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). This standard applies universally to all congregations, regardless of their cultural or ethnic composition. Regarding the "white church" and "Black church" terminology: The practice of identifying churches primarily by race reflects a troubling legacy rather than biblical ecclesiology. The Church is the Body of Christ, united across all ethnic and cultural boundaries (Galatians 3:28, Ephesians 2:14-16). While churches may serve specific cultural communities and express worship in culturally relevant ways, no congregation should be defined primarily by the ethnicity of its members. This racial categorization perpetuates division that Christ's sacrifice was meant to abolish. We are called to see ourselves first as one Church—diverse in expression but unified in Christ.
