Jesus didn’t only change the standard, he changed the consequence. Think evil of your enemy is now covered by repentance and he takes on the consequence. Imagine if how he really changed the rule was to only make the rule more ambiguous. Then the entirety of the Jews would have been put to death for having an angry thought about someone who legitimately harmed them. The church changed the standard, but the consequence remained the same or got worse. This leads to fear, shame, and ultimately coercive mind control.

Standards are no longer expressed in rules, but rather they are taught in concept which this guy goes on to explain.

Actually, the standards have risen. Kind of like with the children of Israel when Christ came, the standards were risen. We’re supposed to be becoming more like Christ, not less. If you’re seeing it differently, then you’re not seeing it correctly.

I’m 63 and when I was a teenager the rules were more lax than when my kids were teens.

Making the rules more ambiguous doesn’t lower the standard. It sneaks in unproportional consequences for harmless actions. Like now the word of wisdom applies to iced coffee, yet the consequence remains the same - eternal damnation. 😬

Also the church is pulling away from policing people per say and getting people to govern their own actions. And people mistake that for lower standards. When in reality it’s giving the people the opportunity to follow the standards because it’s what they actively choose to do themselves.

This is exactly why I stopped paying tithing. I didn’t lower my standards on my use of the lords money I raised them.

No they didn't at all. They left it up to the individual. it gives them the chance to truly choose the level of sanctification towards their father in heaven they wish to do. no more yeses and no's.

Jesus tried to change your nature. Mormons put behavior standards back in place.

This is a terrible apologetic response. Jesus did not get rid of the law—he fulfilled it. Because, ultimately, the law pointed out our fallen nature and why we needed a redeemer. Not a single person could follow the law completely! Jesus also didn’t add a “new law”. If you read the sermon on the mount he pointed out that the law was meant to point out our heart posture. Therefore, hating your enemy is as bad as murder both back then and still today.

Every single prophet has always changed some parts of the tradition throughout the centuries…. seems like a lot of religions, including LDS Church have very petty rules or regulations not just because it may be wrong, inappropriate or immoral, but because of control. The whole daily age, tank top, coffee, nicotine, heavy, metal, music, and in some religions, eating pork we’re all mention due to son immunization of all from knows who had a problem with that not because of the actual benefits of all of it, but because of what cultures would use them for. Not even moderation was unknown term back then but now we’re in the time of information in danger starting to come delight, and to be honest with you I cannot fall for the control of what the LDS church has taught. Yes they’ve gotten very light on a lot of regulations, even so bad that the certain organizations almost took over the church, and still are trying to this day. I can only hope that someday the truth will come out and everybody will see for everything as it is, so forth they even the church can fix a lot of what still historically incorrect but we will see.
