I had 3 and 1 went under wouldn’t come back up for 2-3 months and it started to smell so I dug him up and he was dead, a week later my 2nd biggest hermit crab went under an same thing happened, there’s enough substrate and the mixture is good, I change food n water as needed, and I have a thermometer tells me temp and humidity n both are right, I don’t understand why they go down and pass.

I’ve done some reading and I’ve read that if you handle them it isn’t good for them and essentially can take years off their life? Is that true? I just got 2 so I’m trying to learn everything!

if someone sees this and can answer PLEASE DO!! i’ve loved hermit crabs forever. i got my first one at 7 years old. my boyfriend and i went to pet land and got one, we fell in love with him so we did all of our research so we can get more. we did our research got everything we needed and we now have 5 (kinda 3 bc one of them is a baby and hasn’t moved at all but we don’t want to assume he’s dead if he’s alive so we are giving him time and the other is molting) and they are in a 10 gallon tank. do yall think they will be okay until we can afford a bigger tank? like a 20 gallon maybe? since one of them is molting we were gonna wait for him to come up to change them. thu seem fine and happy they have everything they need and they love eachother, i just want to know if they will be okay in the 10 gallon while my bf and i are saving. if anyone has a input i woukd love to hear it!
