It’s a tool for oppression. If you convince people that their suffering leads to a reward in the afterlife, they’ll never try to escape the systems causing it

Biggest issue for me was the fact that Job’s reward for keeping faith despite losing his entire family was getting another family… as if that would u do the hurt of having your entire family perish????

I think the problem with this frame work is the idea that suffering as a Christian equates to divine justification, it doesn’t, and that’s not what the book of job is trying to say, it’s not saying that you’ll be rewarded for enduring suffering

Christianity became flawed in my eyes when they told me god has “favorites “ and chosen people. Some stories in the Bible that was centered around a specific person just like job and the people around him died and then later he was rewarded and then you just think about his wife and children that died… their life literally had no meaning, and in a lot of ways when you think about god having favorites and also “chosen people” you can understand why people used religion to justify slavery.

For me, Job just dismantles how so many Christians/churches conceptualise suffering. Contrary to what so many Christian’s believe, sometimes suffering is literally COMPLETELY out of human hands and there’s almost a peace in knowing that suffering just happens but God knows what he is doing in keeping the universe together even when we don’t.

it was the reverse for me made my faith stronger 🤷🏾♀️and your argument lowkey made point for it yourself (unless i’m misunderstanding). God wants us to be honest with him in our grievances the book of Job shows that. It also shows the very real spiritual reality that good people suffer and it’s ok to feel some type of way about it. It just made me have a much more open and honest relationship with God.

Doesn't god know what is in your heart? Why do you need to prove how much you love him. The fact that I could be minding my business and go through hell soo that God can prove a point is crazy. Also the fact that his family members died and were replaced. Are they shoes?

It also proves the Bible contradicts itself because God is not supposed to be the God of fear yet that’s exactly what Job would probably feel going forward even with his new family and doubled blessings. Normally people would feel anxious after an experience like that, not having a sound mind. (Timothy 1:7)

If reading a single book of the bible made you lose faith i don’t think you ever had faith in the first place or when you are reading said scripture you aren’t asking the holy spirit to explain.A scripture ought to make you question hence why the holyspirit is on earth to answer them.

one of my biggest fears as a Christian is being insincere about my faith to others. masking my suffering behind empty platitudes to keep the front that I'm steadfast. it's so common and easy to tell whether someone is being genuine with what they're experiencing. I dunno if I hate lying to others or myself more

The church system now is built on demonising people if they don’t see cure, or improvement in a short time. They always blaming others (ie family members who are poor, or witches) they can also blame you for lack of faith. As if faith can be measured
