They usually use a female bison and male Japanese Kobe. The bison can handle the Bisonva calf with no problem. If the breeding was the other way around, the offspring would take more after the father than mother. Kobe cows are where we get wagu beef. The expense in a Bisonva is the fact they process after 4 years instead on 2.5 to 3 years like standard beef cows. The longer the cow takes to mature the more expensive it costs to raise.

I raise Bison, anyone that has tried raising "beefalo" or been around them gets rid of them. We also just sold our Wagyu bulls because when we crossed them with our Angus and Hereford cows. They were the wildest calves we have ever had, for the 5 years we bred them.
