@evallies.com.au: ADHD medication isn’t about changing who someone is — it’s about supporting attention regulation. For some people, medication can reduce noise, improve task initiation, and make skills easier to use. For others, it may not be helpful or may not be the right choice. Medication doesn’t replace strategies, therapy, or support. It can make those tools more accessible. ADHD treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s individual, monitored, and adjusted over time. ⸻ #adhd #adhdmedication #psychopharmacology #attentionregulation #executivefunction ⸻ Disclaimer: This content is for medical education only and is not medical advice. I was told I was “intellectual” at a young age, then diagnosed with bipolar in my early 20s after years on antidepressants and bipolar medications that never really worked. It made me hate medication.
So when my son was prescribed ADHD medication at six, I was terrified. I was against medication, especially ADHD meds, because I didn’t understand them. But I did the research and did what I believed was best for my son.
Four years later, I’m so glad I made that decision. And now that I’ve been prescribed ADHD medication myself, it’s been a complete game changer. For the first time, my mind feels calm. I can read, write, and think with flow. I feel relaxed and clear.
People don’t understand how life-changing this medication can be. It gets such a bad name. Yes, there can be side effects, but not everyone gets them — and so far, I haven’t. I’ve only just started, and it’s already changed my life.
I really wish people would take the time to understand ADHD medication instead of judging it.

Trying to differentiate weather I have anxiety or adhd my brain does not stop unless I’m chaotically busy like when I’m working. Ed nurse Chronic procrastination my best work is completed last minute. But honestly I’m super anxious and probs dealing with some ptsd. But the process is to long even to see a psychiatrist hell I can’t even find time to get into a gp. The whole process just feels to hard so …. I’m just out here living my best messy life.

It wasn’t until my doctor explained to me the value of stimulants for staying regulated that I really understood. That was a year after I started. I now take mine on the weekends instead of trying to cope without them.

Vero 🇨🇦 :
so if I have it prescribed for chronic fatigue, how should it technically work on the brain? If it does actually help with executive dysfunction does that mean I could have ADD or ADHD?

100% just started Ritalin. I’m not running around like the energiser bunny, I’m chill. I went to an indoor play centre with my kids and I was zen, wasn’t overwhelmed or over stimulated. I’m definitely a lot calmer which is great not just for me but those around me.

I tried and i love it. Emotions feel more balanced, I can also just do things without having to wrestle with myself, and my mental noise is reduced. Wonderful.

Will they help turn the volume down in my brain? I'm about to start the diagnosis process because I'm really not coping anymore.

I must be on the wrong meds vyvanse 50 with a 5mg dex booster for morning and late afternoon 🤣 my impulse control is bad i wanna buy everything. im always still trying to juggle 3 tasks because theyre all important but i dont get to choose which one is more important 😫 i never have energy to do anything outside of work. if i take my meds at home its like a day where I didnt take meds at all and nothing gets done...time management is real bad ill set alarms and ignore them then be pure chaos rushing to get ready and be late for work everyday 🙄 its like inner me tries, chaos me is like i dont think so lass.

I got severe bruxism on the way down every afternoon on Vyvanse and Ritalin. Is there a reason why the down even from slow release causes challenges?

As someone with adhd, we don’t form habits. We have annoying tasks that we need to do to keep ourselves alive and our brain breaks them down into a million little steps and makes them so overwhelming that they could never become a habit because every step is intensely thought out and not at all autonomous.

Hey @Dr Rob Gillies, Psychiatrist i was diagnosed a couple of months ago. Battling with ADHD symptoms mixed with Meno issues, started Vyvance but instantly put on 3kg pretty much overnight (with an already overweight problem this isn’t ideal) so stopped it ? Now having a massive crash where I have no motivation to do anything. Suggestions ? Try Ritalin ? My Dr cancelled app today and now can’t get in until next week 😌

I see so much content from American creators with ADHD who get the high. It seems like over medication. My Australian clients don’t have that.
