It’s literally not tho! It’s to show to the viewers that he’s ready to love again. Without it, even with the slow burn happening since she got in the show, Rick and Michonne would’ve seemed random lol

no it wasn’t. Rick loved Jessie because he felt lonely ever since he lost Lori. I think him beginning to love again and kill for people again was amazing.

I feel like it’s cause Jesse was a house wife and so was Lori but idk. Like he sees in Jesse what life used to be like, what Lori could’ve been, she was still house wife life and sheltered in a way while Rick was slightly corrupted but idk

I think it was to show that Rick had become someone he never wanted to be.. the end of season 4 and beginning of season 5 he was truly a different person.. which in season 9 the touch on it a bit when Rick is hallucinating Shane.. Shane says that Rick is the same as him.. that he takes credit for the things Rick did during that time.. his arc those 2 seasons mirrors Shane’s so much.. the only difference is that Rick made it through.. he had people backing him because he earned their respect and trust.. the one thing Shane had lacked.. showed that Rick is not all good.. that he has some of the same flaws as the “villains”

Jesse was the first and only person from Alexandria who penetrated Ricks tough outer layer of pure survival mode. She was incredibly necessary. Without her , Rick wouldn’t have opened up to the rest of Alexandria and eventually other communities.

I actually disagree. I think it showed how much of a bada$$ he needed in a partner…aka Michonne. Rick, or at least new world Rick needed a partner that could be just as much of a hero as he could. Someone who could be soft but tighten tf up when she needs to and Jessie was never gonna be that. Even Lori was better suited than her in the new world

i didn’t like jessie much but i saw a deeper message in that story line. jessie was a reminder of what he had with lori, they were similar in so many ways. a reminder of how trivial it all was before the apocalypse, loving because its convenient. whereas his relationship with michonne was so much more than that, their love was unconditional and what kept him grounded for so long even before they got together. loving his son without trying to be his mother, keeping his head up, reminding him he is not alone, loving him even though it could all come crashing down tomorrow… they had today and that was always enough for them.

I think it was to contrast Rick and Shane because he had taken Shane’s place in a way but the difference was Shane knew Rick was a good man and Rick was helping save Jesse and her sons and in a similar way Shane thought he was saving Lori and Carl from Rick’s good nature
