Hmmmm. This is a tough one. Her explanation sounded believable as did her reaction when she realized she was in trouble, combined with the fact that the officers seemed to very much believe her as well. Could be the parents are going by what they saw in the video and refusing to back out (as I probably would if I were the kid’s parent) and the system not wanting to get in trouble for not proceeding with the charges in the event they were wrong for believing her. But if the kid didn’t even get hurt, isn’t there a lesser charge they could have went with, like misconduct? This will haunt her for the rest of her life.
