@ahbengrecommends: Today my sister jio me to her favourite bistro HJ Bistro located at Punggol. Even though I love HJ, but this is a legit, family friendly bar with delicious food and good live band. Come here must order their BBQ Stingray. Over here, they grill their Stingray together with the Banana Leaf. This infused the fish with a subtle, sweet, and herbaceous fragrance. As the leaf chars on the grill, it also contributes a delicate smokiness that balance the heavy umami shrimpy flavour from the sambal. Sambal is sibei thick and quite spicy, so those Monday wan geng MC, Sunday eat more. Stingray also fresh and no frozen taste. They also serve easily one of the top 3 Hokkien Prawn Noodle I have eaten. Not too wet and not too dry, just enough zhup to coat every strain of noodle evenly. There is also a decent amount of wok hei as evident on some charred piece of noodles. The prawn stock is gao but balanced by the porky flavour from the pork bones. It's like drinking prawn noodle stock but collagen, gravy version. The ingredients is also generous with fresh prawns, sotong and pork belly. Served with standard sambal belacan chili wont go wrong. Sibei spicy also. If you find Eminent too long queue, come here also can get equally good Claypot Frog Porridge. The porridge is thick and is savoury on it's own. Best is it's served piping hot in a claypot. The frog is fresh. So the meat is tender, not tough and is juicy on each bite. Size is quite decent and highly reco their Spring Onion Ginger style. The ginger provides a sharp, warming heat that cuts through any "gamey" notes, while the spring onions caramelize to add a mellow, sweet crunch. For fried chicken lovers, their Crispy Fried Chicken will confirm satisfy your cravings. It's crunchy, crispy on the outside but sibei juicy on the inside. Pair it with their mushroom sauce for the extra flavour. For carbs I highly reco their Carbonara Pasta and HJ Signature Fried Rice (with lots of tobiko!)
