We are a community. It takes a village..... You don't have to share DNA to show love, kindness or support. We have to do it as no one is coming to help us.

There is not enough research on “fatherless dads in the Caribbean household” it’s a nasty stereotype that is thrown around often. Caribbeans in the uk tend to be unmarried, but cohabit. Or co parent, if they aren’t together. And if it is an issue or absent fathers, where to begin? And why are the girls not suffering in the same manner? Poverty is always the number one case, and lack of community. He also states if mum is out working, he comes home from school etc, the streets is the answer for him. Again, girls are less likely to do this. Why does he feel the need to go out and find problems? Because that is what is waiting for you out there.

I'm not sure fatherless homes explain it. what he's actually talking about is Poverty, plain and simple. Poor working class white boys / poor working class Carribean black boys have similar attainment levels. we need to factor in some of the following ⬇️(black African boys may inhabit similar spaces but come from middle class families in Africa). we don't talk enough about ⬇️Income instability Housing instability Stress levels Lower social capital access

People need to talk about the difference in parenting between Caribbean girls and boys and because of how Caribbean girls are parentified from a young age they are more focused and willing to push themselves. Caribbean boys in this country are treated as the ‘prize’ by their mothers so aren’t given as much responsibility and that affects their drive and motivation down the line.
