therapists who give actual advice about environmental stressors rather than remind you to think of what you can control 😩💜

something that has helped me is putting on gloves, grabbing a trash bag, and going to pick up some litter. gets me moving and outside while also making me feel like I'm doing something for my community.

I’m a paramedic, and after an acute increase in stress gave me an autoimmune disorder, I learned to do just this. They joke about “touching grass” but it genuinely helps. Go outside, take a deep breath or outside air, scream into the void, then go back in and do the damn thing. If you can’t talk it out, vomit the words into a journal. My therapist told me that journaling doesn’t even have to be full sentences or make any sense. Just put the words and images in your head on the paper somehow and it will help. It does. I call it “vomit journaling” because I just spill the inner monologue from my head to the paper as it comes in and eventually the bees in my brain buzz a little quieter. Decorate it with stickers and never read it again. Just get it OUT.

Do art about it. You don’t have to be an artist to do art.
