I came into this fandom at 14, started volunteering at 17 and now at 36 some how through all of it I found the greatest of friends, a husband and a lot of pride in the community. all of them I met through volunteering and it opened up the door to so many other people and experiences. you don't experience the community properly until you help run a con

Most of my friends are usually behind a dealer or artists table. So I am sometimes roaming around alone while they are still in the dealers/artists alley. But I do find some people to talk to while wandering the con.

but also re the clique thing. I have friends that I only get to see once or twice a year at some specific cons. it's not being cliquey or exclusive but like I get 72-96 hours a year with these people I love who also have people they want to see so it's not being rude or pushing people away but like... some events I just want to see people I already know and deeply miss.
