In the process of designing my house build with an architect. ZERO downward lighting other than the kitchen. Everything is reflected upward facing light, floor board lighting and lamps. A house is a place to relax, a place to enjoy, ambient lighting is the only way.

i have a lot of the "vintage" bulbs in all of my lamps, i use one lamp for the living room, one for the bedroom and i dim the light over the dining table to make it a low, but still useful and comfortable warm light level at night

I find my eyes struggle more when the room is lit up in one spot. so for me I like an all or nothing approach to lighting
