It’s an inferior complex along with competition. They want to put you in a position to explain yourself to them because they actually feel inferior to you so to shake the feeling they want to instill doubt into your psyche so you lose confidence in yourself or in whatever you’re doing or talking about. It makes them feel superior to have someone explain themselves to them and when you don’t they feel below you. lol
