The only thing that makes me feel better is when I can find a way to actually do something meaningful about it. When I get really stressed out, I post my opinions on social media and look to see if there is an organization that’s doing good work that I can donate to you or volunteer for. I can’t just sit quietly and watch it all and be OK. I am compelled to act. Acting releases some of the pressure and then I don’t get as stressed about it.

It sounds small, but take breaks; and sit with some of the feelings and regulate them after. I used to scroll, get activated then immediately try to go and game, relax or go to work; but I was still carrying the emotional weight and was just becoming more dysregulated. Now I try to only scroll, if I know I have time and space to sit, and process - I also try not to binge for as much as I used to. Being informed is key, but seeing the same event or headline 29 different times doesn’t aid that. Something I try to do regardless, but general regulation time is helpful for me. I find music to be an emotional lever and release. Sometimes I need a good cry or to feel my anger, and music enables that. I can be a bit.. detached from my emotions otherwise, even while still being overwhelmed by them, and activated. The classic, you can’t think your way through your feelings, you need to feel them. I’m sure you know all this. Stay strong, keep safe, and know you’re doing what you can within your power. 💚

I relate to this so much. There was a time when I became hyper-fixated on the news and felt like I had to know everything that was happening, all the time. I needed to read it all, understand it all, and stay constantly informed. Over time, though, I realised that this wasn’t good for me or my nervous system, it was burning me out. So I had to take a complete step back from watching the news. That said, I really don’t like not knowing what’s going on in the world, so I’ve tried to find some kind of balance. It’s difficult, though, and it’s still something I have to keep an eye on.

The video stops after couple of seconds ans starts over. It keeps doing that. I even tried to open it again by going on the account first but it only plaid a couple seconds longer than before. Anyone else?

I love this. I’ve been struggling with this. Even with finding out if I’m autistic and taking all the information in from others experiences in this world activates me. I have to remember to start with me. Ground myself in self love. Remember the tools I’ve already learned to calm myself doen(movement, meditation, clean eating, being by myself, and consuming information is pockets, not consecutively) also trusting my intuition instead of just connecting by getting fed information if that makes sense ✨

right there with ya. i find myself going numb, knowing i shouldn’t. journaling helps. i don’t think the human nervous system is adapted to coping with global events in an ever growing population
