what you were saying about the number needed to sustain a population is interesting because wouldn’t that mean that almost any predator or large predator that gets isolated on an island is doomed? Simply because the number of animals as predators has always going to be much smaller than the number of available prey items? For example, something like the island sub species of tigers, which I think only one still remains aren’t they pretty much doomed from the second they get isolated?
