This isn’t right. Strozzi made a relational database without a sql interface in the late 90’s. It was novel but not really revolutionary. He first used the term NoSQL. Then unrelated in the early 00’s there was a lot of conversations specifically focused on solving CAP compromises in distributed compute at scale and we were not going to do it the RDBMS way with immediate consistency. We called that NoSQL without thinking about Strozzi. Mongo tried to play in that field but failed. They couldn’t even get quorum or scale effectively. So they turned NoSQL into buzz word for web devs who were frustrated and wanted NoDBA. They just repackaged what already existed and told everyone that key value stores have never used json before and some people believed it. Then other vendors decided to repackage old tech as noSQL so they could make sales quota too and then NoSQL basically meant nothing.
