@mtn.alice: Replying to @bbqanchovy There are certainly unique challenges in dating someone who puts their life on the line, whether through an occupation, professional adventure sport, or simply a higher risk hobby, but I would bet it's not very difficult for her to support him. I know this is a weirdly parasocial video to make but 1. I relate to her position which makes me very interested in this whole dynamic and 2. Plenty of people are making parasocial videos criticizing her and it's gone too far imo
Why didn't Steve Irwin and his wife get the same, "but he has a wife a kids" argument? And he did literally d1e doing his very dangerous job. Everything from firefighting to football can cause death or catastrophic injury.

I think they made their stance very clear. Alex is confident in his preparedness. He wants to push himself, and takes risks - but he feels it's an acceptable risk due to his training. I think they BOTH think it's actually a good example to set for their child.
I wouldn't make the same decisions, but I respect that point of view.

so weird how people are projecting this weird narrative onto her…

Yeah all the dogging on her makes me feel SO bad. She does seem so sweet and genuine

I’m sorry but regardless of your gender, I think it’s batshit crazy to put the future of your family at risk over something like this. It would be an immediate dealbreaker if my partner ever risked their life knowing they have a child who might lose a parent in just one slip-up.

The frustrating part of this argument is that it felt a little more valid with the el cap climb. The fact all these people think that that building wasn’t astronomically easy for him is hilarious. That shit was basically a tall ladder

It’s very infantilizing to assume she doesn’t have the capacity to leave or say no. They’re victimizing her for a choice she went into eyes open.

No one dogs professional football players and MMA fighters who risk getting maimed in simulated combat. No one bats an eye at car/motorcycle racers with families.

I agree, but I will say most high risk jobs serve a greater purpose for humanity (research, saving lives, etc). I think that’s why the solo climbing is hard for us to understand the comparison.

Incredibly well put! I think its worth noting that the climbing community and other extreme sports communities look at and approach risk tolerance and management in a completely different way. Alex has said himself that other aspects of climbing are uncomfortable for him, and he would be hard pressed to free solo a WI6 ice pillar. (Enter Will Gadd and Conrad Anker).. They don't get this level of negativity and I believe Alex's level of fame outside our community allows more people to see it.. and they think its nuts!

His wife made a choice, his children did not. And that is the actual problem with all of this.

Clearly no one has followed their story 😂🤣 I keep seeing videos like “he has a wife and kids”.. like so what? Why should that stop anyone from doing what they love? Also love his wife and hate the hate she is receiving

Appreciate this video. It’s frustrating to see so many people drag her just because they don’t understand the relationship or how climbers exist in the world but still feel entitled to judgement.

I think people just don’t understand either one of them and it leads them to make assumptions based on their own projections. it’s projections. and it is 10000% internalized misogyny. Sanni is so obviously loved by him. her natural essence has not changed him or been changed by him, but helped him grow. it reminds me of my own relationship with my girlfriend. she is an emergency responder and we both climb. i will never ask her to stop doing either one of those things. even if we have kids. life is too short to not go on adventures and test your limits.

THANK YOUUU. I admire sanni and really did not expect this rhetoric around them after this climb. Also the intensity of the backlash in the midst of everything going on? Like who cares she is grown let them live 🥴

I have no problem with her or her choices. Or his! I do think a little about the risks he takes given that he is a father now. But 🤷🏻♀️
