@authorhaylinicole: Reposting this video from last summer because things are only going to continue to escalate from here. I want to strongly encourage everyone to read Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning (or watch the documentary on Netflix). This book has lived in my bones since my Anthopology studies 13+ years ago. This was one of the KEY books that triggered my deconstruction of the racism, hate, and bigotry I was raised in and conditioned by. The capacity for cruelty resides in more of us than we care to acknowledge or admit. And we’re seeing that cruelty triggered by external influences, playing out in reprehensible ways. Human history is a series of patterns repeating and the more we can wake up, the faster we can end these cycles of abuse.
Had a class about Holocaust history, this book was our main grade for half the term and I considered it just another book I have to read for class. I have to say it has changed my entire point of view regarding the Holocaust and the perpetrators. Made me realize that if I were put into the same or a similar situation, I most likely would have been just like them.

As soon as you said "if you are struggling to understand" and my first thought was "I am not". I'm not struggling to understand. Thanks to studying Nazi Germany while earning my sociology degree, I see what is happening. I understand how ordinary people, under the right circumstances, can commit atrocities. What I did not expect was to face that reality in my lifetime in my country.
