I understand where you’re coming from. For us, culture and environment play a big role. We’re a Latino family, and my own upbringing involved later exposure to dating topics. My daughter is also in a more conservative school setting, so I try to be mindful of how new topics land for her specifically. For me, this isn’t really a values debate as much as it is a parental discretion and timing issue. Deciding when, how, and in what context certain topics are introduced to my child. I realized afterward that I probably should have skimmed the chapter first so I could introduce it in a way that matched her readiness. I do wish the explanation and review of the book reflected this more clearly. Based on the video, I wasn’t expecting that chapter to be presented the way it was, which is why it felt misleading to me. I agree these conversations are important, and I also agree they’re best had together with parents so kids feel supported and able to talk things through.

This book is misleading. My daughter is 11 years old and she was confused as to why she needed to read about being in a romantic relationship (or not) and other topics she did not understand and in a sense frightened her… i feel a disclaimer would be appropriate.
