@treatmyocd: OCD is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed mental health conditions. Best-selling author @John Green knows this firsthand. In the first episode of his new YouTube miniseries with NOCD, John shares his journey with OCD—from not knowing even what he was experiencing, to eventually getting the help he needed through ERP therapy. Hearing someone so many of us admire deeply, someone whose books many of us turn to for comfort, speak openly about his experience with OCD, reminds us we’re not alone. It shows us that even after misdiagnosis and years of struggle, there is real hope. John’s story is proof that getting the right care can change everything, and that living with OCD doesn’t stop you from becoming who you’re meant to be. A good therapist who treats anxiety should have noticed that before the psychiatrist. It makes you wonder what kind of therapists are there ..

Same thing happened to me when I went in for insomnia. I told her the reason I couldn’t sleep was because I had thoughts that played on a loop. Literally had no idea.

i was lucky enough to be diagnosed by my first therapist in 2014 (who has ocd herself). she saw it in me immediately & educated me on what it was. luckily i've found her again & have started ERP with her! i can't imagine not knowing for so long!

I’m in Canada, we can get free therapy if you need it. But I get 1 appointment a month and it’s regularly cancelled and rescheduled. It really sucks.

I saw a couple of different psychologists over a few decades, all treated me for anxiety. Started a new one last year who did testing on me after our first session. OCD. Once she worked on treating my OCD, I felt like a completely different person very quickly. It’s so sad how long you have to suffer with it before it’s picked up.

I have never been diagnosed with ocd just anxiety, periods of depression. They said my trichotillomania was a compulsive disorder but reading into ocd I’m starting to be convinced my severe health anxiety is actually ocd 😭 I think I need a new psychiatrist

Was diagnosed adhd as a child, then ocd in my 20s, find out in my late 30s they are frequently occurring comorbidities with autism and it all made sense finally

What I would give for the world to have access to basic mental healthcare… the moment my doctor said to me “this isn’t normal anxiety, this is something that actually needs real support and medication” my world changed.

I learned at the age of 30 that the difficulties I've experienced since childhood were due to OCD, despite going to psychiatrists and therapists for years.

i thought i had ocd and did a few sessions with nocd. i was immediately diagnosed but don’t believe i have it cuz i went there seeking the diagnosis instead of someone telling me i have it so of course they’re gonna diagnose me.

I was doing therapy for anxiety for about 2 or 3 years before it clicked. My therapist pointed out checking behaviors, etc and had me get and read The OCD Workbook. I cried because so much resonated with me and I had felt so broken for so long. it changed how we approached things in therapy and I finally was able to make progress.

i got diagnosed with OCD after 10 years before being diagnosed with everything you could ever imagine 😭 the matter is that for OCD we need a very specific type of therapy and the others make it worse. but its great that nowadays there's more information about it and great specialists.
