@madscientistofmuscle: "Somersault" Split Squats...this is a variation of the Somersault Squat exercise where you hold weight on your upper thigh then focus primarily on knee flexion rather than performing a full squat. This is a good version done one leg at a time instead of both legs. I found I did need to have my front foot elevated a few inches to get a good feel on it. I have a small ledge in my garage so I just my foot on there but a small Step riser or even a bumper plate would work just fine. I'm holding a 135 lb dumbbell on end on my upper thigh here (using both hands to stabilize it). The key thing here is you want to focus on knee flexion on the front leg, treating your back leg as a pivot, basically. You want your body to stay fairly straight from your back knee to your head, minimizing assistance from that back leg. You can see this by how I'm leaning forward as I come to the top of exercise rather than keeping my torso vertical. I really liked the stretch I got on the front quads at the bottom with this one. I found good tension on the VMO (vastus medialis right beside the knee) as well. This one is definitely worth playing around with, if you want to focus on some quad work with minimal glute involvement. #madscientistofmuscle #somersaultsquat #somersaultsquats #quadexercise #quadtraining #quadexercise #vmo #vastusmedialis #quadstretch #quadworkout #splitsquats #splitsquat
